It depends on the type of tooth movement you need, your bite, and your lifestyle. At your initial assessment, with X-rays and an oral exam, we'll recommend the best option for your case.
In most cases, between 12 and 24 months, depending on how complex the tooth movement is and how consistent you are with checkups and, for aligners, wear time.
It's normal to feel pressure or mild discomfort in the first few days after each adjustment or when switching aligners. It shouldn't be intense pain — if it is, let us know.
Your gum health needs to be stabilized first. As a periodontist, I do that assessment upfront so orthodontic treatment starts on a healthy periodontal foundation.
